Good News Comes To Southeastern Michigan

Local Heroes honored by edibleWOW Magazine

Bloomfield Hills, Michigan ”A new kind of hero is receiving recognition this week in Southeastern Michigan. These heroes grow our food, feed our families and strengthen our communities. They are the 2009 Local Hero Award Winners sponsored by edibleWOW magazine.

“Our award is like none other" says Chris Hardman, editor of edibleWOW, the local food magazine that gave the award. “We are celebrating the producers of our food and the caretakers of our land, because would could be more important than the food we feed ourselves and our families?"

edibleWOW is a locally-produced magazine that highlights the farmers, chefs, bakers, vintners, farmers' markets, orchards and food artisans of Southeastern Michigan. Now in its second year of publication, the magazine has attracted a large following from Lansing to Detroit.

To identify these local heroes, the magazine solicited input from readers via an online survey.

The 5 winners are

Farm/Farm: Earthworks Urban Farm in Detroit
Food Artisan: Avalon International Bakery in Detroit
Beverage Artisan: Arbor Brewing Company in Ann Arbor
Chef/Restaurant: Chef Brandon Johns, Vinology, Ann Arbor
Not for Profit: Forgotten Harvest in Oak Park

“We are excited to present our first Local Hero awards" says Kate Harper, publisher of edibleWOW magazine.
