Macy's Launches Beautiful Planet

A Beautiful Planet is within reach as Macy's launches an eco-friendly space at select stores this September. Designed as a shop within a shop, the concept shop was built to celebrate beauty and well-being in the most natural way possible. For the first time, Macy's will carry well-known natural and organic brands such as Burt's Bees, CARE by Stella McCartney, Pangea Organics, and many more. In addition to having high standards for the natural and organic brands Macy's carries, all elements of the shop are created using environmentally sustainable construction methods and materials. From packaging and display fixtures to pamphlets printed on recyclable paper, this shop is truly in touch with Mother Nature.

As our society grows increasingly green, an escalating number of people are looking for new ways to live more harmoniously with Mother Nature. Always looking for innovative ways to stay connected with our customers, Macy's created a Beautiful Planet. Through packaging, use of plant-based and organic ingredients, or involvement in other eco-conscious initiatives, Macy's and partnering vendors offer a choice for women who want to look and feel good.

“All of our choices have an effect on our planet and our bodies" says Christine Johnston Senior Vice President Cosmetics for Macy's East. “We want to show our customers that beauty is a lot more than skin deep. More and more of our customers are looking for alternatives in their face and body care products. Macy's Beautiful Planet is addressing that need for the customer who is in tune with her body and the environment".

Environmentally friendly materials including rapidly renewable bamboo, recycled post-industrial eco resin, recycled steel & aluminum, low VOC paint, rescued tree limbs and renewable coconut shell tiles have been used to create an eco-system in select Macy's locations.

Macy's Beautiful Planet shops will host special events such as makeovers, facials, and giveaways, as well as seminars and information sessions on organic nutrition and other aspects of well-being. Beautiful Planet shop openings will occur in Herald Square, New York on 9/15, Downtown - Boston on 9/19, Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey on 9/19, Roosevelt Field - Long Island on 9/23, and Philadelphia - Center City on 9/28. Additional shops will be opening in Novi, MI on 10/23, and Pentagon City, D.C. in early Spring 2009 and Old Orchard in Skokie, IL and Water Tower in Chicago, IL on 1/13 in early Spring 2009.
